Beaten May 22nd 2023 with Storm the lvl 52 Raichu, Eerie the lvl 50 Gengar, Seed the lvl 50 Venosaur, Laxin the lvl 51 Snorlax, Fins the lvl 51 Vaporeon & Spoons the lvl 51 Alakazam.
While some of the gameplay is outdated, and ghe glitches very obvious, I still find this to be a very charming and really fun game. While I think at the time of release, the fact that you could go to any gym after a point and pick what order to do things was fun. I know it was more of an illusion of choice, since there was no level scaling, but I like it in comparison to some of the railroading the later games get into.
The graphics are really nostalgic to me and adore how goofy and fun the pokemon sprites are and how they almost stretch in an exaggerated manner to take up a lot of the square area given.
I made a point to play with some favorites while playing with some pokemon that don't usually make it onto my team, like Raichu and Snorlax. I usually go the Jolteon route, but man, Raichu is very fun, and Snorlax easily became a big favorite of mine. I also went out of my way to catch all legendaries present in the game, which I did not do as a kid, and I thought that was really fun! I loved catching Mewtwo!

Beaten? Around late September 2023. Beat the Elite Four with Neela the lvl 45 Jolteon, Pokey the lvl 48 Slowking, Rinnie the lvl 42 Dragonair, Dar the lvl 46 Houndoom, Milk the lvl 45 Meganium, and Brickhouse the lvl 46 Forretress. Beat Red with Rinnie the Dragonite, Neela the Jolteon, Laxin the Snorlax, Pokey the Slowking, Milk the Meganium, and Dar the Houndoom all at level 80.
I think I've played Crystal more than any pokemon game, it was actually my first pokemon game ever, and I still think gen 2 holds up pretty well. I just miss running, lol.
Though I used to really enjoy the post game here, the post game for Crystal after beating Blue and going directly to Crystal was an honest to god slog that I really did not enjoy. I was like "I've already beaten Kanto, can't I go on to gen 3 aready?" Blaspheous, I know.
But as a kid I never did manage to beat Red on top of Mt Silver so I made it a point to do it this time. I also really really wanted to catch all three legendary dogs and then catch Ho-Oh but honestly... I just did not have it in me right now, and I knew if I forced myself, I'd just run out of steam and stop playing any pokemon games altogether. Sometimes you have to go for what feels right. I do wanna come back and eventually do this since I never have caught all of the lengendary dogs before.
